Photo by John Vachon, of the US Farm Security Administration, Life magazine, Office for War Information, Life etc.
Let’s face it, with the ubiquity of advertising in the Twentieth Century, and the ubiquity of smoking within that advertising, it would be amazing if I was to refrain from sometimes using the most attractive images about this for the camel (or, rather, Camel) of the day sometimes.
What’s striking about this advert for me though, is that nobody else in the photo is smoking. Is it this that prompted John Vachon to shoot at the moment he did?
